First and only edition.
Beautiful artist’s book entirely engraved on wood by Julia Chausson. A graduate of the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, she has published numerous books for children with various publishers. And the artist’s books, which she creates and prints in her studio, are the fruit of experimentation and personal research free of all editorial constraints. It is an opportunity for her to deepen her language, the pleasure of a beautiful paper, the choice of its texture, the depth, and the freshness of the inks. It is an object designed and made to measure, a rare book that she prints in a limited edition. For this character of the Russian witch Baba Yaga, Julia Chausson draws inspiration from traditional tales collected by Alexandre Afanassiev in the 19th century and writes her own interpretation on 4 pp. inserted in the leporello. Choice of inks according to the scenes of the story, deep black for the beginning and the end of the story, deep pink for the interior of Baba Yaga’s isba, red for the escape of the little girl, orange for the anger of the witch. A cut-out window invites us inside the isba.
Limited to 52 copies on BFK Rives vellum 180 g, (240 g for the covers), numbered and signed by the artist.
