Woodcut lettering and large original linocut illustration by Mikhail Larionov in brown and orange signed in the plate.
First and only edition.
Splendid vintage document of the famous ball held on 23 February 1923 at the Salle Bullier in Paris, the most ambitious of a series of whimsical charity balls organized for the benefit of Russian émigré artists in Paris between 1923 and 1925, with ballets choreographed by Larionov and the Ballets Suedois, costumes and sets designed by Goncharova and Fernand Léger, and original contributions by the many participants representing the cream of Paris’s avant-garde scene.
Larionov’s illustration features two stylized whole-length standing figures, one orange, one brown, with an abstract work of art as though receding on the wall alongside.
One of the most important Dada events of the period.
