Hungarian Decorative Arts

KOVÁCS (József & Lajos)Kecskeméti sablongyár mintái.

(Kecskemét, Sziládi László, circa 1925).

Folio, loose as issued in publisher’s illustrated grey cloth-backed portfolio with ties, front cover with a sparkling colourful design of a vase with flowers and the title in white and blue.

Loosely inserted price list (in Hungarian and German), 20 coloured plates, some with gold highlights, showing 44 different patterns (numbered 1-44) for walls, borders, and ceilings.

First and only edition of a beautiful « advertising portfolio » by the first Hungarian stencils fabric established in the early twentieth century by the Kovács brothers. The plates are interesting as they mix motifs of traditional folk art and Art Deco, the combination of colours is striking and daring.

A very good copy.

Rare, with only one copy traced in institutional holdings worldwide (Metropolitan Museum, New York).
