Beautiful colouring album by the important Belgian symbolist artist Georges Marie Baltus (1874-1967), a friend of Léon Spilliaert, on the theme of the absence of the father gone to the front. Short text below each image by the Belgian author Raymond Limbosch (1884-1953).

The album was published by Céline Dangotte (1883-1954) and her Brussels decorating studio/shop L’Art décoratif; she was a great promoter of Art Nouveau in Belgium, a supporter of young local artists, some of whom are now very famous, an important figure of Belgian Feminism and a supporter the “New Education” and experimental pedagogy; she opened one of the very first “Children’s Libraries” in Belgium.

A fine copy.
