Fine illustrated score by the important Belgian artist.

The cover illustration is a stylised representation of his companion, the avant-garde dancer Akarova. The score is dedicated to the “Philips light bulb” and the lyrics gloriously praise the Philips company, “King of Light who lights up the Universe”. At the time he designed this piece, the artist was graphic designer for this company.

Marcel Baugniet (1896-1995), important Belgian painter, graphic artist, decorator and designer, one of the main defenders of the constructivist ethic in Belgium prior to running towards the Plastique Pure movement. A painter, from 1922 he started designing interiors and developed a range of functional furniture. His research into fixtures and fittings, standardization and the use of new materials made him one of Belgium’s principal furniture designer between the wars. Marguerite Acarin (1904-1999) was a Belgian dancer, choreographer, and artist. She is generally known by her stage-name, Akarova, coined by Marcel Baugniet. She was called “the Belgian Isadora Duncan”. She studied music and dance under Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, creator of eurhythmics, after which she joined the Antwerp ballet. She soon left due to disputes with the ballet mistress. In 1922, attending a meeting arranged by Isadora Duncan’s brother Raymond, she met artist Marcel Baugniet, with whom she would collaborate for many years. They married on 31 October 1923, but separated in 1928. In this period she danced, choreographed, and designed sets and costumes, in performances to works by composers such as Igor Stravinsky and Maurice Ravel.

Excellent copy, in unusually bright condition.
